Microsoft to launch $500,000 reward for tips on malware, ransomware, ransomware-infected PCs

Microsoft will announce a $500k reward for information leading to the arrest of a senior member of a cybercrime ring that is believed to be responsible for the spreading of ransomware.

The reward will go to those who assist the FBI with their investigation into the case, which was revealed by Reuters on Wednesday.

The news agency said it had seen evidence of a ransom scheme in progress, with individuals offering $250,000 for information on those behind the malware.

“The FBI has successfully disrupted a ransomware attack and is continuing to work with our international partners to secure their systems,” the company said in a statement.

“We will continue to provide our customers with more information as we continue our investigation.”
