A longtime aide to Donald Trump who worked at the White House for five years has sold the White Hall Office Building and a closet location in the building to a developer for $2.7 million, the Trump administration announced Thursday.
The purchase of the two properties at the West Wing, near the East Wing, is the first sale of the White and West Hall areas of the building, where Trump and his family have been living since the fall of 2016.
It is not clear if the two units are for sale or if the deal is part of a broader Trump administration effort to buy more office space.
The sale comes amid reports that the Trump Organization is in negotiations to purchase the New York Times Building, which is located just outside the White Capitol.
The Times Building is home to the Times newsroom, where news articles are published.
The president has been in negotiations with several buyers for his Washington office, and some of his aides have recently left the building.
The White House has been criticized for its use of private security and for its lack of amenities, such as elevators and a fitness center.
